Save your Halloween with these 3 Cool Costume Ideas!

October 22, 2012

Clementine Levy photographed by Pauline Darley in "She has waited too long"Halloween is just around the corner, no matter how long you think you still have to come up with a cool costume idea!  You better start working on it now, or you’re going to end up on the 31st afternoon crying over spilled mil… fake blood.

Every year it’s the same question: which way to go? What costume to choose? How to be original? To buy or to diy?

I would ALWAYS go for the diy option, for a couple of reasons:

  1. Nobody else will have your same costume.
  2. There are more chances nobody else will impersonate your same character.
  3. It’s cheaper.
  4. Chances are it’s going to be amazing and not sad like many cheap fancy costumes!

Well, these are some ideas I came up with and this is my Halloween devoted Pinterest board: if you are throwing a party you should definitely have a look!

Quick: The horror costume

Well, it’s Halloween, you’ll never go wrong with a nice scary outfit! Which one will be more “trendy” this year?

I would go for the possessed/ghastly little girl: scary as hell, it can be done in 1, 2, 3! You don’t even need a wig, just a bit of effort in tearing up an old dress, teasing your hair and applying your make-up!

Funny: The celebrity costume

People will try everything to guess who you are: the success of your costume will be determined by how many people actually guess or point at you shouting: “HAHA oh look it’s Rihanna/Lady Gaga/whoever! Amazing!”

For this one, you only need a couple of strong features. If you’re going Amy Winehouse, a black wig, checkered knotted shirt and plenty of black eye pencil will do!

If you’re too lazy or you don’t have any clothes to use, you can totally buy a costume for a few bucks. We have selected some for you. And yes, we’re totally into leotards this year!

Most creative: “your wardrobe” costume

Nobody said it was going to be easy. It’s the cheapest Halloween costume ever though. Start rummaging in your wardrobe and select your coolest clothes. Now, start putting the same styles together and try to come up with a theme. Your costume will be super original!

Extra tip: having a good make-up on your face can make the whole costume! In this case a make-up artist friend or make-up skills would be a great help! If you don’t have any of this, I’ll give you a couple of ideas:

  • dress up as a snake: wear everything green and grey and do the make-up on your face. The easiest way is making a green/gray light foundation with some eyeshadows. Then wear a fishnet tight on your head so that it covers your face. Done? Now apply a dark green colour. Once you remove the tight your face will look like it has scales on it. Quick, easy and impressive.

What if you don’t own as many colours, lipsticks and foundation you’d need for a perfect Halloween makeup? No worries, we’ve got you covered. Thanks to the Halloween Gods there are Halloween makeup kits on the cheap out there. We have selected some of the best ones for you:

That first image is stunning. Halloween isn’t a big deal in Fiji or even that much in Australia but I have been loving all the Halloween inspired posts on the blogosphere lately!
