Top 5 Emerging Fashion Illustrators

March 31, 2014

Fashion illustrations might easily be the best thing about fashion whatsoever. Ok, this might be my opinion, but how else could you create such a wonderful, colourful and magical world? If you’re Tim Walker you may have the means to make that magical world “real”, but it usually doesn’t happen. In fashion illustration it happens all the time.

Most often than not fashion illustrators are fashion designers themselves, depicting their own collections and ideas. But fashion illustration is a career on its own, and I absolutely love discovering emerging fashion illustrators around the web.

Top 5 Emerging Fashion Illustrators

Michi Rezin is a NYC based photographer and fashion illustrator. She has so many talents I don’t know where to start telling you about her: she’s a writer, a blogger, a photographer, a designer and a fashion illustrator. And she does all these things with passion, know-how and talent.  I also love her because she drew my portrait and it’s the second time I have a portrait done ever. Have a guess: which one is my portrait among the illustrations below? Hint: it was inspired by this post’s pictures.

There can never be a list of fashion illustrators on my blog without Achraf Amiri having a spot in it. I absolutely love the guy and his creepy genius! His sarcastic attitude towards fashion is funny and horrifying at the same time: exactly the kind of thrill we were looking for! I am including him in the list of “emerging” illustration artists because I feel like he still doesn’t have the recognition he deserves. Check out his art and go straight to his blog for more!

Without any logic or continuity I’ll give you Cirque du Papier: completely different from the two above and the one below, Maelle only uses pencils. Before you think “booooring” have a look at what she has to offer! Such a different range of shades, a colourful world to lose yourself into, a true Cirque… made of paper!

If Maelle’s favourite tool are pencils, Maya’s are definitely watercolours. I’ve been following her blog since the very beginning: she can give you the idea of a dress, a detail and a situation only with a couple of brush strokes and quick traits. This is a huge talent!

Nadia Flower is my cup of tea: graphic, clean drawings, colourful enough but not too much and a penchant for filling up the blank spaces. Have  a look at her art and you will understand what I’m saying! I find it curious that illustrators are mostly women: it’s a woman business! I love it.

I absolutely adore fashion illustration. Whenever I do a new blog header, I always try to work with a fashion illustrator. As the yrs have gone by I have seen more mags use more fashion illustration like British Elle and Comapany. I hope more continue to do so: its a great way of showing that fashion is art! In this article, Nadia F is my favourite!
